Introduction

StepKey ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your information.

1. Information We Access

1.1 Health Data (via Apple HealthKit)

With your permission, we read step count, distance, flights climbed, calories, and exercise minutes from HealthKit to calculate earned screen time and display your activity statistics.

All health data is processed entirely on your device. It is never uploaded, shared, sold, or used for advertising. We only read data and never write to HealthKit.

1.2 App Settings (Stored Locally)

Your preferences like step goals, screen time settings, blocked apps, achievements, and display preferences are stored only on your device and never leave it.

1.3 Screen Time

We use Apple's Screen Time framework to block selected apps. This is processed entirely by Apple on your device and is not accessible to us.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

  • Name, email, or contact information
  • Location or GPS data
  • Device identifiers for tracking purposes
  • Contacts, calendar, or photos
  • Browsing history

3. Third-Party Services

3.1 Superwall

We use Superwall to manage subscriptions and paywalls.

Superwall may collect:

  • Subscription status and purchase history
  • Device type and OS version
  • Paywall interaction events (anonymized analytics)

Superwall does not receive your health data, step counts, or any personally identifiable information.

3.2 PostHog (Analytics)

We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics (e.g. feature usage, app settings) to improve the app. Data is processed on PostHog's EU servers. No health data, personal information, or location data is collected.

3.3 Apple Services

We integrate with Apple HealthKit, StoreKit, and FamilyControls, which operate under Apple's Privacy Policy.

4. Data Storage

Your personal data and app settings are stored locally on your device. There is no cloud sync, no account creation required. Anonymous analytics data is processed as described in Section 3.

5. Data Deletion

Uninstalling the app removes all app data. You can manage HealthKit permissions in iOS Settings under Health, and Screen Time permissions in iOS Settings under Screen Time.

6. Children's Privacy

StepKey is rated 4+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The app does not require any account or personal data to function.

7. Your Rights

All Users:

  • Access all your data within the app
  • Delete all data by uninstalling the app

EU Users (GDPR):

  • Rights to access, rectification, erasure, and portability apply
  • Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control

California Users (CCPA):

  • We do not sell personal information
  • Right to know and delete applies via the app controls described above

8. Changes to This Policy

We will indicate changes by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Significant changes will be communicated within the app.
